The Dominican Republic is certainly known for its luxurious resorts and hotels that make it the perfect spot for vacations or special events, like honeymoons.

But what if you’re simply looking to stay over a couple nights to scout out some property or have a business meeting, and you want to forgo the extras?

Here we’ve compiled a guide to some of the best places to stay in the Dominican Republic if you’re simply looking for great accommodations at an affordable price.

Four Points by Sheraton, Punta Cana

This simple hotel is not only located right in Punta Cana, it has luxury flair at pretty standard rates.

What makes it especially attractive is its proximity to restaurants, car rental agencies, BlueMall Punta Cana, and an airport, making it ideal for entrepreneurs, businessmen, and day-trippers simply looking for a place to sleep in between work duties.

The hotel itself has amazing reviews, and is well-known for its clean, spacious rooms, pool and other luxury amenities, as well as top of the line service.

Antiguo Hotel Europa, Santo Domingo

This historic hotel located in the heart of the Colonial Zone is regarded as one of the best “bang for your buck” locations in the country. With solid customer service, clean rooms, and historic charm, not to mention cheap rates, you really can’t find much like it in the area.

Many vacationers use this hotel as a starting point for exploring the Colonial Zone and the rest of the city at large. However, it’s also the perfect spot for staying in overnight or for a weekend if you’re simply looking for an affordable spot that is not off the beaten path and places you within arm’s reach of delicious food and necessary services like car rentals.

Don’t forget to hit the Plaza de la Hispanidad, a fantastic historic park, just down the street!

New Garden Hotel, Sosúa

Looking for an affordable place to stay in the Sosúa area? You really can’t go wrong with the New Garden Hotel.

Located pretty much right on the beach, but some of the cheapest hotel rates in the country for the accommodations, you really can’t do much better.

Only a block from the beautiful Playa Alicia, the hotel is centrally located near convenient restaurants, banking, and other services, and has everything you need if you’re looking to stay in the area for a day or two. Sosúa being one of the most popular Dominican Republic hotspots, making the price of this hotel ideal if you’re doing business here or simply want to relax in their private pools for a few days.

Gran Jimenoa Hotel, Jarabacoa

This is another cheap place to stay with surprisingly luxurious accommodations for the price. This spot is ideal if you’re looking to stay more inland, and aren’t necessarily concerned with beach or ocean attractions and services.

Gran Jimenoa can run pricier than some of the other places listed here, but they often run deals on popular hotel booking sites, so keep on the lookout for those. If you book well in advance of your stay and nail down a deal, you can often get rooms here for cheaper than almost anywhere else, for the same level of quality.

Jarabacoa is also the perfect getaway location if you’re looking for some fun and adventure on top of your business needs. Located amid golf courses, mountain climbing, caves, inland safaris, and even horseback riding and paragliding locations, you’re definitely not going to be bored if you’re planning a stay here.

What to Remember When Staying in the DR

The key to a successful trip in the DR is plan your stay according to where the services and attractions you need are located. Yes, the Dominican Republic is somewhat small, but going from one side of the country to the other is not exactly practical.

Since there is so much to do on each “side” of the island, as well as key points of interest in the middle, like in Jarabacoa, do your due diligence ahead of time and plan what you will do before you get there.

Choose your place of stay based on proximity to your favorite activities. Even the beaches are different and offer varying experiences, as we detailed here. As long as you know where you are going ahead of time and plan accordingly, there should be an affordable place to stay for a short period of time that has excellent location and amenities.
