As a child we are all intrigued by the future. Do you remember the Jetsons? If I remember correctly, aren’t we supposed to have ‘flying cars’ by now? Oh well, maybe one day we can have them, let’s see what happens!

Well let’s talk a little about the future of the Dominican Republic and what is currently happening that will greatly affect the future of this beautiful island.

It’s official, China is invested in the Dominican Republic to the tune of $10 Billion US Dollars. What started this? Tourism.

Recently China and the Dominican Republic have reached an agreement worth around $3.1 Billion USD of investments and loans. This is BIG news for the crown jewel of the Caribbean. So what is included in this package? Some items that are included are a new freeway ($535 million), $2.1 Billion for several different infrastructure projects throughout the country followed by a new natural gas plant for $401 Million. China sees a great opportunity in the Dominican Republic and this spells growth for the island in many sectors.

What else stands out? A diplomat for the Dominican Republic mentioned that China could invest around $10 Billion in the coming years in the tourism and energy sectors. That’s great news if you are looking to invest in a vacation home or a residual income producing property. There are around 6 million tourists that come here every year and with the government looking for ways in attract investments ( tax free property purchases in Punta Cana ) and more tourists, it would be a shame to miss out on a great opportunity to purchase real estate and build residual income. With all the developments happening in Santo Domingo and throughout the country I firmly believe that this can only lead to good things happening here.

Latin American experts are touting this as a positive not only for the Dominican Republic but also for the region as well. Chinese tourists can bring major benefits to the economy of the Dominican Republic.

With the tourism sector tourism set to explode with Chinese tourists (no visa is needed to enter) and bring in around 10 million tourists a year, this means great things for property owners with vacation homes along the coast in Punta Cana and other coastal cities.
